The door to a fairytale world.
1932 can be considered the year that ice cream production started in Estonia, when Evald Rooma – better known as Onu or ‘Uncle’ Eskimo – opened the country’s first ice cream kiosk next to the old market in Tartu.
In 2012, in a doffing of the hat to his life’s work, Balbiino released two Onu Eskimo ice creams made according to maestro’s wishes and hints.
Since 2013, we decided not to focus on the character of Uncle Eskimo, but create a magical wold of Uncle Eskimo.
Uncle Eskimo isn’t merely ice cream – it’s a whole world full of dreams, memories, pranks and fairytales.
It’s like some magical land where anything’s possible, like in the paintings of Salvador Dalí or Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. It’s a place where even the wildest dreams come true and where every day’s like Christmas and midsummer wrapped up in one. A warm north.
Uncle Eskimo illustrations came to life last year in new packages, refrigerators, outdoor advertising, tram etc. Of course everything you see is hand made.
