Description
The Seaplane Harbour was established in 1916 as a centre of military aviation. Between WW I and WW II more than 150 airplanes were registered in Estonia (today the number is five times less). From 2012, after a 73 year break, the Seaplane Harbour is open as a seaplane port once again. The Seaplane Hangars is the first concrete shell construction, technically a predecessor of Sydney Opera House and Beijing Olympic stadium. This was not general knowledge while the Seaplane Harbour was opened. The reconstruction of the concrete shells of the Seaplane Harbour and conversion into a maritime museum is a remarkable event worldwide. In order to present the historic value of the Seaplane Harbour and achieve wide attention a flight trick show of flight acrobats was performed over the Bay of Tallinn. The Estonian government appreciated the importance of the event: for the first time in the history of Estonia all other flight activity was ceased in Tallinn’s airspace.
